BTCC (Scalex) - Round 2

Racing summary – Stratton Valley (8/9/20)

BTCC - Scalex

After a quiet, low key start to this series, the second round drew a much larger field, with drivers coming from far & wide to JBs track at Stratton Valley.  It was no coincidence that this increased field size also resulted in a stronger level of quality & made for some very tight racing over the night. It was the first appearance of Chris Madziaras car for the series, and it was quite obvious that he’d been spending a goodly amount of time fettling it for the last 2 years. A great 3 stints saw him the early leader & it wasn’t until very late in the round that Phil just managed to overhaul him on track position & grabbed the win.  Both Phil & Chris (2nd) finished on the same lap (76),  2 laps clear of the rest of the field.  The next 9 drivers (3rd to 11th) all finished within 3 laps of one another, demonstrating how close these cars are in performance.

Adrian Gray took 3rd, proxied by Bruce, on 74 laps, just clear of John Batich in 4th also on 74 laps.  A group of 3 drivers finished on 73 laps with Rhys taking 5th ahead of self-proclaimed MG underdog Callen in 6th.  Bruce’s own car also finished on the same lap & slotted into 7th. Rob Golley found himself in a unique position, all alone on his lap count of 72 to finish 8th before there were another batch of 3 drivers again, this time on 7 laps.  Mal finished off 9th, alongside Dave Bantoft (10th) & Dennis Murray (11th) in another tight jostle for positions. Chris Priest in the Fifth Gear special (driven by Jason Plato) came in 12th on 68, and finally Dave Gray’s brightly coloured BMW in 13th on 62.

Top 3

1st – Phil, 2nd – Chris M, 3rd - Adrian
