Racing summary – Mornington Park (7/10/20)
The penultimate round of the BTCC series and, as usual, it was a very even spread of results. This class has certainly been a competitive one with close racing throughout. This week it was the Northern visitors turn with Chris M taking out the win with 3 very consistent heats & a total of 114 laps. 2nd place went to Phil on 113 & finally breaking his run of 5 wins in a row in this series. The very reliable John Batich took out another podium with 3rd place on 109 laps & consolidated his stranglehold on 2nd in the series results with only 1 round to go. A group of 3 drivers were next in line all on 108 laps, but it was Callan (in the first of the MGs) who finished 4th ahead of Rhys (5th) & Adrian Gray in 6th. One lap further back it was a brace of drivers on 107 laps, and this time it was Bruce Thomas who took 7th with Mal (that’s me) half a lap behind in 8th. Dave Bantofts wingless MG was up next in 9th on 105, one lap to the good of Rob G who grabbed the last spot in the top 10 on 104 laps. Dennis Murray stood alone in 11th on 99, followed by both Dave Gray (12th) & Chris Priest (13th) on 97 laps. Thomas Males in the Halford Honda had a couple of decent early heats, but the recalcitrant car decided to misbehave somewhat on lane 3 & Tom struggled a little towards the end to finish 14th with a total of 75 laps.
1st - Chris, 2nd - Phil, 3rd - John Batich
