Racing summary – Stratton Valley (18/8/20)
Fly Sports GT
The series we never thought would end finally came to the final round this week. After as start back in the pre-crazy era in March, and a series re-start in July, this week saw both the end of this series, and the return to racing at JBs wonderful venue of Stratton Valley. As expected Johns track was immaculately prepared and he had even managed to get the builders in over the break & was showing off a brand new pit complex. The positive comments from all the drives were overwhelming……….…..
”I can’t see my car now” was just one example of the encouragement relating to this major development.
At the top of the results though, Chris M obviously had no trouble seeing his car around the track and drove a great, well judged race to finish 1st on 84 laps. Just behind in 2nd, on the same number of laps, Adrian Gray in the 2nd red Ferrari in the field……..certainly not the last though! Phils little, but extremely quick 908 grabbed 3rd this week a couple of laps back on 82. Rob continued his strong form right to the last and was only 1 more lap down on 81. Callen again put in a great showing in the “underpowered” Porsche to pip JB for 5th, both finishing on 79 laps. Another of the Porsches (Bruce) racked up 78 laps for 7th, 2 laps clear of myself (8th) in yet another of those big red Ferraris that Callen is so fond of beating.
Dennis Murray drove his great looking Red Rose Racing Chevron (which was blue) …………into 9th on 72 laps with Dave Bantoft rounding out the top 10 with 69. Chris P on 67 laps grabbed 11th, Dave Gray after some tyre treatment issues in his first heat finished 12th (63) and Tom Males drove a good last 2 heats to be 13th on 68.
As this was the final round of the series, final points were awarded & tallied up. Phil ended up a deserving winner this time with the grand total of 145 points. Rob Golley showed the benefit of his consistency to finish 2nd on 142, narrowly squeezing out Adrian Gray who was 3rd on 141 points. Both Robs & Adrians results were particularly meritorious given that they had each missed a complete round and had no discard round to play with. Good series overall with some very tight racing & results through each round.
