Group C (Slot-it) Round 2

Racing summary – Stratton Valley (29/9/20)

Group C Sports (Slot-it)

Onto the 2nd class of the evening & the pace increased somewhat as the Slot-it Group C sports cars took to the track. Upon first glance at the results, it appeared as though we had very similar (ie - identical) results as the first round top 3.  However, upon closer examination, it was discovered that in fact we had two different winners from round 1 to round 2 this week.  Callan (with an A) Thomas had taken out round one but had subbed in a different driver (Callen with an E) Thomas to drive & take out the win this week.  It promises to be a very close battle between these two namesakes throughout the rest of the series & will probably come down to which one of them turns up each week.  So, in the end, it was CallEn Thomas in first well clear on 88 laps.  There was no such confusion for 2nd & 3rd though, and it was a carbon copy of round 1 with Phil 2nd on 85 just pipping Adrian Gray in 3rd also on 85 laps in a tight battle. 2 laps in arrears and on his own in 4th was yours truly (83 laps) with another close battle for 5th behind me.

DB & JB (the Bees together again !) both racked up 82 laps, but track position gave 5th to Dave Bantoft & 6th to John Batich. Rob Golley & Bruce Thomas also finished on the same number of laps in the next battle royale (81), but it was Rob Golley who took 7th in the end from Bruce in 8th.  This, despite Robs own attempts to sabotage his round by putting his own car back onto the same lane when he was in fact switching lanes !  It was only due to the very aware marshalling of Callan who managed to grab Robs car as it took off under someone else's control at the commencement of the next race. This resulted in much hilarity and ribbing of Robs oversight….which only ended when Rhys managed to do exactly the same thing in the very next heat…..more hilarity ensued & the old chestnut of lane markings on cars was again brought up. Perhaps though, Rob & Rhys might need to run this type of class to assist them in their future lane selections…….and stick to the same lane as their colour of car.

Anyway, Rhys did manage to get things sorted out eventually & he grabbed 9th spot with 78 laps clear of Chris Priest in 10th (75), Dave Gray in 11th (72) & Thomas Males in 12th on (69). Another boring race night with no fun…..

Looking forward to next week ! See you there.
