Round 2 - Summary of Racing
So, a new series has begun (well, it actually began last week, but due to a sudden onset of slackness the race reports didn’t manage to make it to publication. Anyway, with the very colourful Japanese GT / GT3 Scalextric cars brought off the shelves again, the racing has commenced & this 2nd weeks racing was as close as the first. There are many spectacular & individual liveries among these cars, and there are certainly not many excuses for mistakenly marshalling the wrong car….unlike the class of car being raced in the other series.
The orange & blue Gulf colours adorning Callans car showed the way this week though & won the round with 1 lap to spare on 121, just clear of Phil in 2nd on 120 laps. In 3rd place on 117 was Bruce in the Japanese dragon livery, which nabbed the last place in the top 3 by 1 lap from myself in 4th on 116. The SUNENERGY AMG GT3 livery of my car is also a very striking one, with orange flames licking the nose & flowing across the bonnet of the car merging into a fusion of colour at the rear & not looking remotely like anything to do with a dodgy left wing activism campaign.
Rob Golley was 2 laps back on 114 in 5th, another 2 laps clear of John Batich in 6th on 114. Dave Gray & Rhys couldn’t be separated on laps for 7th & 8th with both finishing on 109, however Dave Gray took the position on the track. Dave Schofield was a clear 9th on 107 laps, ahead of Dave Bantoft 10th on 102, Chris Priest 11th on 101 & Thomas males in 12th on 92 laps total. The final two spots were reserved for the weeks unlucky drivers. Leigh Stephens put together two consistent brackets before hardware failure relegated him to 13th on 76 laps. However, Adrian Gray had an even more dramatic drop off in his heats from a great first heat 40 lapper to a 2nd heat mechanical failure part way through & an undeserved last place on the weeks results.
1st – Callan
2nd – Phil
